Terms of Service

Last updated: July 6, 2026

NearbyLA ("NearbyLA", "we", "us") is a free directory of jobs, gigs, recommendations, events, and community resources in the Los Angeles area. By using the site you agree to the terms below. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

1. What NearbyLA is — and isn't

NearbyLA is a listings platform. We collect and display jobs, gigs, and recommendations submitted by employers, posters, and our editorial team (plus a feed of public listings from third parties like Adzuna). We are not an employer, a staffing agency, a contractor, a broker, an escrow service, or a party to any agreement made between users of the site.

We don't screen, background-check, interview, train, supervise, insure, pay, bond, or vouch for anyone who posts or applies on the site.

2. Gigs marketplace — liability disclaimer

NearbyLA is only a platform. We are not responsible for any work quality, payment, damage, injury, theft, fraud, or disputes that arise between posters and workers.

When you post a gig, apply to a gig, or perform a gig found through NearbyLA, all agreements, payments, and arrangements are made directly between you and the other person. NearbyLA doesn't collect or hold payment, doesn't set terms, doesn't resolve disputes, doesn't guarantee anyone's identity or qualifications, and doesn't provide any insurance.

Specifically, NearbyLA is not liable for:

  • Work that's done poorly, late, or not at all
  • Property damage, loss, or theft
  • Personal injury or illness
  • Unpaid or disputed payments
  • Scams, fraud, or misrepresentation by either party
  • Tax or legal classification of work (employee vs. independent contractor — that's between the parties and the relevant authorities)
  • Any other consequences of work arranged through the site

Admin approval of a gig only means the listing looks like a plausible piece of work — it is not a vouch for the poster, the worker, the price, or the quality.

Use your own judgment

Before you accept or post a gig, satisfy yourself that the other person and the work are legitimate. Suggested precautions:

  • Meet in a public place or with another person present the first time.
  • Agree on the scope, pay, materials, and timing in writing (text counts) before any work starts.
  • Never send money before work is done. Never share bank passwords, SSNs, or login credentials.
  • Use safe payment methods (cash on completion, Venmo, Zelle, check) — not wire transfers or gift cards.
  • If something feels off, don't do it. Walk away. Block the contact.

You can flag suspicious listings to hello@nearbyla.com and we'll review. We may remove or refuse any listing at our discretion for any reason.

3. EV Charging — liability disclaimer

NearbyLA only connects charger hosts and drivers. We do not own, operate, install, inspect, maintain, or insure any charging equipment, vehicle, or property listed on the site.

When you list a charger, book a charger, or charge a vehicle through NearbyLA, all access, payment, and arrangements are made directly between the host and the driver. NearbyLA sets no prices, holds no payments, inspects no equipment, and provides no insurance or warranty of any kind.

NearbyLA is not liable for:

  • Damage to a vehicle, battery, or charging equipment
  • Electrical faults, power surges, fire, or equipment failure
  • Injury or property damage on a host's premises
  • Theft, vandalism, or trespass
  • Inaccurate listings — price, availability, connector type, or speed
  • Cancelled, delayed, or no-show sessions by either party
  • Any other consequence of a charging session arranged through the site

Hosts are solely responsible for the safe condition of their equipment and for complying with any permit, utility, lease, HOA, tax, or insurance requirements that apply to them. Drivers assume all risks of charging on private property and using equipment NearbyLA has not inspected. A "Verified" badge means only that we performed a basic check — it is not a guarantee of safety, condition, or identity.

4. Senior & Care Help — liability disclaimer

NearbyLA is a platform that connects families and individuals with independent local helpers. We are not a home-care agency, healthcare provider, employer, or staffing agency, and helpers are not our employees or agents.

Helpers found through NearbyLA are independent people. We do not employ, train, license, supervise, dispatch, or direct them. All arrangements, payment, and supervision are between the family and the helper.

Non-medical help only. Help arranged through NearbyLA is limited to companionship, errands, transportation, and household tasks. Helpers must not provide medical or nursing care, administer medication, assist with bathing, toileting, or mobility transfers, or make medical decisions. If a person needs medical or personal care, use a licensed agency or professional.

You are solely responsible for interviewing, checking references for, vetting, and selecting any helper for yourself or your family. Any background or identity check NearbyLA offers is a basic screen, not a guarantee of a helper's safety, honesty, qualifications, or fitness. Background checks are never 100% accurate and may not reveal a person's complete criminal, driving, or other history, and are never a substitute for your own judgment, references, and supervision. NearbyLA is not liable for injury, harm, neglect, abuse, medical emergencies, theft, financial exploitation, or the acts or omissions of any helper or care recipient.

Elder and dependent-adult abuse is a crime. If you suspect a vulnerable person is in danger, contact local authorities or Adult Protective Services immediately. You can also report concerns to hello@nearbyla.com and we will cooperate with lawful requests.

5. Jobs listings

Jobs listings come from employers who post directly and from third-party feeds (currently Adzuna). For third-party listings, the original posting URL and employer are credited on the listing. We don't verify employer claims, pay rates, or job conditions. Apply at your own discretion and never pay an employer to be hired — that's a known scam pattern.

6. Payments + refunds

Employer/poster fees (featured listings, subscriptions, gig posting fees) are processed by Stripe. We don't store card details. One-time fees (featured, boosted, spotlight, gig posting fees) are non-refundable once the listing goes live. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time from your account and remain active until the end of the current billing period.

The first gig you post per account is free — no card required. Subsequent posts are $9 each.

7. What you post

You keep ownership of anything you post. By posting, you grant NearbyLA a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, distribute, and format your content as part of operating the site.

Don't post anything that's illegal, discriminatory, fraudulent, harassing, or that infringes someone else's rights.

8. Prohibited uses

You may not use NearbyLA to:

  • Post or solicit illegal work
  • Post adult/sexual services or anything targeting minors
  • Discriminate against applicants based on protected characteristics
  • Run scams, phishing, or pay-to-apply schemes
  • Scrape the site or interfere with normal operation
  • Misrepresent your identity

9. Termination

We can remove any listing, suspend any account, or refuse service to anyone at our discretion, with or without notice, if we believe it's necessary to protect users or comply with the law.

10. Assumption of risk, release & indemnification

Assumption of risk. You understand that NearbyLA simply connects people, and that interacting with other users — online and in person, on private property, in vehicles, or in someone's home — carries risk. You knowingly and voluntarily assume all such risks.

Release. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release NearbyLA and its operators, owners, and agents from any and all claims, demands, and damages arising out of or related to your dealings or disputes with any other user, any listing, any charging session, or any help arranged through the site. If you are a California resident, you expressly waive California Civil Code §1542, which says: "A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release, and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party."

Indemnification. You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless NearbyLA and its operators from any claim, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your use of the site, your listings or bookings, your interactions with other users, or your breach of these terms.

People you involve. If you invite, bring, or allow any person who has not registered and accepted these terms to take part in a session, booking, or visit — for example a passenger, a member of your household, or someone present at your property — you are responsible for that person and agree to defend and indemnify NearbyLA and the other user for any claim brought by or on behalf of them.

No insurance. NearbyLA is not an insurer and provides no insurance, guarantee, warranty, or protection plan covering any session, booking, helper, host, driver, vehicle, property, or person. Arranging your own insurance is your responsibility.

Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law — including a party's own fraud, willful injury, gross negligence, or violation of law (see California Civil Code §1668).

11. No warranty + limitation of liability

NearbyLA is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, NearbyLA, its operators, and its agents are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising from your use of the site or any listings on it.

Where liability cannot be fully disclaimed, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of your use of the site is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $100, whichever is greater.

12. Dispute resolution & governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction — except where binding arbitration applies, as set out below.

Informal resolution first. Before filing anything, you agree to contact us at hello@nearbyla.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve the issue.

Binding arbitration & class-action waiver. To the extent permitted by law, any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be settled by binding individual arbitration rather than in court, and you and NearbyLA each waive the right to a jury trial and the right to participate in a class action. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing us within 30 days of first accepting these terms.

Some jurisdictions limit or prohibit certain of these provisions. Where a provision is unenforceable, it is severed and the rest of these terms remain in effect.
